November 5th, 2011 NAGA update:
Only three Choke-U competitors entered the North American Grappling Association tournament in East Chicago this weekend.
Congratulations to Ziecina Jan who won the gold medal in his blue belt division. Jan defeated two opponents on his way to the gold, the first by armlock and the second by points!
Our Alpha Wolf, Jesse Gudenschwager, brought home the silver medal in his purple belt division, defeating his first opponent by ankle lock and losing by points in the finals to a very tough competitor.
Cody Richart lost his first match by one point, the only point scored by his opponent, in his no-gi division. Cody was using NAGA as a warmup for his MMA debut next month. More information on that event soon.

Halloween Update: Remember that Choke-U is closed on Friday, October 28th and Monday, October 31st, due to downtown trick-or-treating and Valparaiso trick-or-treating respectively. We are open Saturday for Open Mat at noon and on Sunday for Open mat at 11:00 a.m. Happy Halloween!
C-3 Update:
Only two competitors from Choke-U entered the C-3 Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament in Gary today, October 8th, but both brought home a medal.
Ziecina Jan ('Polish Jon') won a gold medal in his blue belt division in sudden death overtime!
Chad Williams won a silver medal in his white belt division (in his first BJJ tournament)!

Schedule change for Saturday Open Mats:
We are changing the Saturday Open Mat time tomorrow (October 8th). It will be from 5pm - 7pm instead of noon. This is so there will be someone available to coach Chad Williams in his BJJ tournament debut. Good luck at the C-3 Chad!
The next Saturday Open Mat (October 15th) will also be changed to 5pm - 7pm so we can all have a chance to roll with Ray Lyerla who is flying up from Texas for the Andre Galvao seminar. There is also a rumor that Elizabeth Juracka will be in town and might be rolling as well!

We had another great seminar with Abu Dhabi Champion Andre Galvao. 39 people attended the seminar this time. Andre's knowledge and detail of jiu-jitsu is absolutely incredible! I want to thank James O'Connor for letting us host the seminar at his martial arts school in Chesterton and to Tim Sledd of Small Axe BJJ in Martinsville for making it all happen. Also, congratulations to Tim Sledd who was promoted to black belt by Andre Galvao on Saturday, October 15th.
